World 1-4
Step 1
Grab the mini mushroom and run to the mini pipe as Mini Mario. The pipe leads to an area where you can wall-jump to the first star coin. If you can make it to the end of the stage as Mini Mario, you can dash off of the top of the pipe and do a long jump to the right. You will soar above the flagpole and earn an easy 1-Up.
Step 2
Stomp the Koopa at the top of this structure and kick the shell to the right. It will smash through the blocks, exposing a 1-Up and the mouth of a pipe.
Step 3
Don’t touch the coins until you hit the block to reveal a P switch. Stomp that to transform the coins into blocks that form a stairway to the second star coin. If you are quick you can scoop up several newly transformed coins near the entrance, too.
Step 4
Standard or Mini Mario can simply dash over the gap to reach the star coin, but larger Marios will need to slide down the hill by running and crouching beneath the ? block. Use the same slide technique to get back after claiming your prize.
Step 5
To pull off a 1-Up loop, grab a Koopa shell from the block structure near point 2 and carry it to the end of the stage. Kick it in either direction from the sweet spot at point 5 – it should bounce between the green and yellow pipes forever. Jump over the shell whenever it nears Mario to let it rack up 1-Ups by killing the Goombas generated by the pipe.
World 1-A
Step 1
At this point the level will begin scrolling automatically. Don’t get caught on the left side of a wall when the screen catches up with you, or you will be crushed. Note that Shell Mario will have a bit more control when swimming.
Step 2
To maximise your earnings, don’t hit the P switch until it toward the left side of the screen. But don’t hit it too late, or you will risk being crushed at the left side of the screen behind the wall.
Step 3
A maze of invisible blocks at point 3 conceals two 1-Ups, but the blocks will get in your way if you try to reach the star coin from below. So, grab the first 1-Up and then swim along the ceiling to the star coin. Then let yourself sink to the level of the second 1-Up,
Step 4
Wait for the sushi to pass, then swim after the red coins. Don’t swim too close to the right side of the screen, or the sushi could surprise you!
Step 5
The P switch at point 5 will reveal scores of coins. Help yourself, but don’t focus on filling your pockets so much as careful dodging – the air from the pipes will blow you into the sushi if you aren’t cautious.
